The one-liner
The Colliers are an acoustic Americana & folk band from the South Yorkshire coalfield — driving riffs, solid basslines and big harmonies, with a brand-new EP on the way.
Short bio
Formed in the pit villages south of Doncaster, The Colliers fuse English folk heritage with American roots music. Their 2014 debut EP “Who Forgot the Parachute” (Riverjuke) led with the hometown anthem “Ellers Lane”. Now back in the studio, the band are cutting their first new record in over a decade.
Long bio
Named after the colliers who worked the South Yorkshire seams, the band grew up surrounded by working songs, brass bands and back-room folk clubs. They plug that heritage into Americana: acoustic guitars at the core, an electric riff always pushing underneath, and a rhythm section that drives like a shift change.
The debut EP opened with “Ellers Lane” — named for a real lane out in Auckley — and carried the band across the UK, including shows like Sound Control in Manchester. Over a decade on, The Colliers have returned to the studio for a new EP: same coalfield roots, sharper sound, same foot-tapping feel-good spirit.
